One Aphasia Action is a set of small, actionable activities you can do from home that will help you retain speech progress.
Not everything has to be about words. (Did you expect to hear that from the National Aphasia Association?) What we mean is that games in and of themselves have a tendency to bring out the conversation. Spontaneous language is great, so trigger it with an online game date.
Make a plan to meet family or friends via FaceTime, Skype, or Zoom. Play Hangman, Battleship, or charades. Plenty of board games translate well into video chats, such as Yahtzee. Or choose a game you both have in your home, such as Monopoly, and make sure your boards match, move-for-move.
You can find all of the One Aphasia Action activities on this list. This works best if you start on Day 1 and work at your own pace, even if you’re finding this project long after it has started. Try every activity, even if you only do it once. Keep doing the activities you like, repeating them the next day along with the new activity, and drop the ones that don’t work for you.
