A series of 4 workbooks filled with exercises to work on eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills, speech-language and cognitive activities. Do not be fooled that these were published by a company that uses the word “kids.” These are activities for adults who are recovering from a stroke. Unlike many other workbooks, these books have dozens activities that combine writing and vision – both critical aspects of recovery.

Another benefit is that they include non-language-based cognitive tasks. There are 4 workbooks in the series that progressively increase the level of difficulty. Progress charts allow the user to track their schievements. On the website https://BounceLearningKids.com you can explore many other workbooks (crossword puzzles, mazes, anagrams, math, logic) suitable for stroke recovery.

Survive and Thrive Book CoverThis is a very readable book written through the eyes of a stroke survivor. He shares his challenges and frustrations and how humbling and exhausting it is to live with post stroke challenges. Many of his frustrations are all too common. He shares how difficult it is to have problems with comprehension – a problem that is frequently overlooked. He also mentions that he recognized his progress, but it wasn’t always noticed by others, and how this ended his insurance reimbursement. However, the author thrived on faith, family and friends and he shares not only his challenges but how he faced them. Best of all, he writes helpful hints which led to his success.

As he says: “the book describes what it’s like for a survivor to fight for their former life.”
